Kelly Watt for Superior Town Council

Kelly and William at Chili Fest 2026Kelly Watt has called Superior’s Original Town neighborhood home for 11 years. A Marshall Fire total loss survivor, Kelly knows firsthand the strength, resilience, and challenges of this community. Since 2022, she has served on the board of Marshall Together and, since 2023, on the Wildfire Fund Committee with the Community Foundation of Boulder County. Through both roles, she has advocated for legislation, organized inclusive community events, and worked to ensure the needs of Marshall Fire survivors remain visible.

Kelly brings 15 years of senior leadership experience at Naropa University, where she has led strategic planning, built community partnerships, and guided complex university-wide initiatives. Her accomplishments include creating SparkTalks, co-chairing Naropa’s 50th anniversary celebration, and leading strategic enrollment planning.

Kelly believes effective local leadership starts with listening, bringing people together, and turning community priorities into action. As her family prepares to return to their rebuilt, fire-resistant home this autumn, she is excited to give back to the community that has supported them through the long road to recovery.

Kelly is a classically trained soprano, wife, and mother of two young children.

Priorities

Affordable & Senior Housing

  • Senior housing: On the Wildfire Fund Committee, Kelly helped provide financial support to Kite Route Crossing, Superior’s first-ever affordable senior housing development.
  • Homes for sale: The proposed development at the Zaharias property on 88th will bring additional affordable housing units for sale.
  • Planning for seniors: Superior is already very family oriented. Kelly wants to keep thinking long-term about seniors’ needs, from transportation around Superior to regional connectivity.
  • Accessibility: Make current infrastructure and new developments accessible, and build events, services, and offerings with seniors in mind.

Fire Mitigation & Emergency Preparedness

  • Personal experience: As a Marshall Fire total loss survivor, Kelly keeps fire mitigation and emergency preparedness top of mind.
  • Building on success: Superior was a leader in the aftermath of the fire, and Kelly is proud of the Town’s work supporting those impacted.
  • Community readiness: Help Superior be prepared, informed, and above all safe should another extreme weather event occur.
  • Collaboration: Work with the Town’s Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Manager, Allison James, to build on the good work already done.

Supporting Superior Businesses

  • Superior Marketplace: The Town relies heavily on sales tax from retailers like Costco, Target, and Whole Foods. Keep existing businesses, attract new ones, and revitalize the area.
  • Downtown Superior: Support new and existing Downtown businesses as the area grows into a vibrant center for shopping, dining, summer markets, concerts, and arts nights.
  • Every commercial area: Give all of Superior’s commercial areas, not just Downtown, the Town Council’s attention and care.
  • Partnership: Seek the Superior Chamber of Commerce’s partnership, and open lines of communication between the Council and every business that calls Superior home.

Endorsements

  • Neal Shah, Superior Town Councilmember, candidate for Mayor of Superior
  • Jenn Kaaoush, Superior Town Councilmember
  • Sandie Hammerly, former Superior Trustee
  • Audrey DeBarros, candidate for RTD District O Board
